Wildfires ravage region, smoke blankets Rockbridge County

A large wildfire continues to grow four days after it broke out. People in Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County are feeling the effects of the smoky, heavy air that is making breathing difficult, especially for those with respiratory conditions. The “Matt’s Creek Wildfire” is spreading across much of the Jefferson National Forest. It has burned over 2,700 acres so far. Rockbridge High faced shooting threat on top of bomb scare Oct. 10

New information uncovered by the Rockbridge Report shows that there was a shooting and bomb threat on Oct. 10. School officials have previously mentioned only a bomb threat. Students describe the day as chaotic as school officials through the cafeteria shouting “code red” because the school did not have a PA system. Also, some students were barricaded in their classrooms believing there was a school shooter. School officials maintain that all students and staff were evacuated in a calm manner.

Parents and law enforcement await answers to Rockbridge County bomb threat

Rockbridge County parents are frustrated due to a delay in notifications during the recent bomb threat at Rockbridge County High School. The school is addressing this concern by implementing a new intercom system, which will enhance the speed of notifications. These false threats strain law enforcement resources and cost taxpayers thousands of dollars for each lost instructional hour. No law enforcement agency has taken the lead on the investigation.

Rockbridge County High School students safe after bomb threat hoax

Around 11:45 a.m., Rockbridge County High School evacuated its students and staff after receiving a recorded message stating that a bomb was inside the building. School officials dismissed students early and cancelled all Tuesday after school activities, including sporting events. Phillip Thompson, superintendent of Rockbridge County Public Schools, said law enforcement conducted a thorough sweep of the building and believes the bomb threat is a hoax.

Episode 3 reveals the scarcity and inequity of opportunities available to male and female inmates while they're locked up—and the barriers they face after they're released, return home, and try to rebuild their lives.
